Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. Many people who don't know about the place mistakenly think that they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact, this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of Lachine. Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel lived in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. In her early years she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected increase in her height made it difficult. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet 1 inches." Once I was bigger than my male counterpart, I stopped. Some former dancers switch to acting, and in Brugel's case it was a nudge from a high school drama teacher who pushed her in the right direction. She was encouraged to try out for roles in the school's production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the sole Canadian of the Season 1 cast of the show as well as appearing only on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
